Letter to the editor

When the rules of the game are set, both sides must put themselves in the position of the losers and decide how they'd like to be treated if, in the future, they are the downtrodden. I am a 26 year old, healthy male with excellent health insurance. I know, however, that I may not always have my current job and I can't wait until I'm 65 to have guaranteed coverage.

That is why I so strongly support healthcare reform and why I am incensed at many older Americans' opposition to it. The status quo is rigged in their favor, they have no chance of ever being on the losing side of a health insurance denial of claim scam. They will never have to struggle to find coverage in the open market should they lose a job or gamble their money away in the nearest casino. Such narrow self interest should be more embarrassing, it should not be flaunted in tea parties on the Mall.
